The Tale of the Utterly Gutsy Shinobi was Jiraiya's first book, written while training the Ame sold poorly; nobody attended Jiraiya's book signing. The main character, Naruto, never gives up and vows to break the "curse" that was mentioned in the story. The mentioned "curse" represents the'vicious cycles' of war, conflict and (novel). The Tale of the Utterly Gutsy Shinobi is a novel written by Akira Higashiyama and illustrated by Masashi for the dust jacket, the entire book is formatted as though it were the actual book that appears in the anime and manga, with Jiraiya being given author credits.
